The Women’s Adventure Academy is all about stepping through the portal into the outdoors and feeling capable to get out into wild places independently. You’ll be hands on and learning by doing with your fellow academy women.
The Course
We run the academy over 3 weekends in the Lake District – you’ll need to be available for all 3 to complete the course.
Each weekend runs from Friday at 6pm - Sunday at 1pm.
We spend one night in a mountain hut and one out wild camping every time we meet.

Weekend 2 - May 22-24 (Duddon Valley)
Weekend 3 - July 3-5 (Langdale)

Before each weekend we’ll have a group zoom call get to know each other, ask questions, discuss kit requirements and prepare for the adventure ahead.

The Details

We share delicious food at a candlelit table and have a skills workshop in the evening.

Morning
After breakfast another skills workshop and then pack up our rucksacks for the overnight will camp.Afternoon
After lunch and once everyone is ready we will head out for a slow adventure. We’ll walk between 5 - 10km and practice skills on the way. You’ll be carrying your own kit and your rucksack will weigh about 15kg. Once we find our spot near some water we’ll set up camp, cook food on our stoves and sleep out under the stars. -
We have breakfast, pack up slowly and head back to our hut whilst practicing skills and learning more on the way. We’ll share a delicious lunch at the hut together before heading off home.

Each weekend we’ll be based from a in a rustic mountain hut in a remote Lake District valley. The hut will be simple and cosy with a basic bathroom, running water, electricity and beds.

To get to the mountain hut you can drive, lift share or I can arrange a pick up from the nearest bus stop or train station (Oxenholme, Ulverston or Penrith).ion

Wild places
We are in a different valley in the Lakes on each weekend so you get to know a few different valleys and feel at home in the Lakes should you want to come back to this beautiful part of the country - which I’m sure you will!

Here’s a list of things you need to bring with you. If there’s anything you don’t yet have you can borrow from the WAA kit store at no extra cost.

On the pre-weekend zoom call there will be time to discuss what kit you will need in more detail.
Fjallraven Classic
As an added bonus there will be a place for everyone on the WAA to take part in the Fjallraven Classic UK on the 14 - 17 September 2026 . This multi day slow adventure is a great way to put everything you’ve learned into practice. You’ll need to purchase the ticket yourself. But tickets for the event are tricky to get hold of so this will ensure you have a place.
